“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
When I read this verse, I picture a noble, strong warrior who spends his days fighting for the freedom and justice of his people, riding up to me, his daughter, on a huge black stallion, powerful and brave. He gets off his horse and, smiling gently, hands me a single wild flower, his tender eyes twinkling in the sunlight. After playing together in the meadow until dusk, he tucks me into bed by candlelight, softly singing the lullaby he wrote for me until I drift off to sleep with a smile on my face. Feeling precious, adored, safe, secure, loved.
This verse reminds me of Daddy God’s gentle, nurturing, protective side. Even though He is a Mighty Warrior, He is still your loving daddy who sings over you, His precious child, while you sleep. His song for you is one of soft redemption, eternal victory, and everlasting love; sure as the sun rising over the meadow. A song that quiets your soul and embraces the deepest desires of your heart. He sings His song so you never forget who you are or who you belong to.
