A December’s Eve

Strangers on a December’s eve,
caught in a crossfire that we couldn’t see,

Friendship to romance; the sweet tragedy
of a darkness the light couldn’t reach,

Anguished love mourns joy’s deceit,
in the realization of a heart’s defeat,

For we were never meant to be
more than strangers on a December’s eve.
