In Memory of…

My sweet friend, Athena tragically passed away on May 18th, one week after giving birth to her first child. Just 31 years old, she was a beautiful soul, confident, courageous and compassionate. I will especially miss her big, gorgeous smile and the way her eyes glinted when she laughed. She was wise beyond her years and throughout our friendship, she gave me guidance and encouragement that I will never forget. She lovingly challenged me to be a better person and for that I am forever grateful.

Here is a poem I wrote in her honour.

A radiant light shone deep from within,
T enacious and loyal, her warmth drew you in,
H er bubbly laugh was contagious and bright,
E ncouraging others with kind, tender might,
N urturing, loving, a wonderful friend,
A ripple of beauty that will never end.

Blood is Thicker

Why is there war between father and daughter

If blood is thicker than water

Why does their pride lead a lamb to the slaughter
If blood is thicker than water

Why does she curse the forgiveness he’s brought her
Why does she welcome the demons that fought her
Why does redemption lie dead where it sought her

If blood is thicker than water

A December’s Eve

Strangers on a December’s eve,
caught in a crossfire that we couldn’t see,

Friendship to romance; the sweet tragedy
of a darkness the light couldn’t reach,

Anguished love mourns joy’s deceit,
in the realization of a heart’s defeat,

For we were never meant to be
more than strangers on a December’s eve.

Not Enough

Your words caress me like a thousand butterflies

As gentle as the summer’s breeze,

And everytime you look at me with those eyes
And touch my skin, I find it hard to breath,

But you don’t understand
That it’s not enough to hold my hand,
And it’s not enough to promise me you’ll change,

Because you’ll never be, the man that I need,
And you’ll never see how much you mean to me,

You mean so much to me,
But it will never be
Enough for me.

The Lust of the World

Your sickly sweet allure creeps menacingly
just below the surface of my conscience,

Gently wooing me with your insidious promises
and your deceptive charm,

You make me believe that I need you
and that I’m not whole without you,

When in reality, your selfish lies cut deep
and your callous whispers
of seduction
leave me broken hearted
and alone.

“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions.

These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”

– 1 John 2:15-17 (NLT)

Be Still My Child and Know

When the trials seem to never end
When you force a smile but can no longer pretend
When things don’t go the way you intend
Be still my child and know.

When life’s storms seem to be closing in
When you’re running in circles but can’t seem to win
When the clouds are thick and the silver lining thin
Be still my child and know.

That you were planned from the very start
I don’t make mistakes; you’re a work of art
You hold the highest place in my heart
Be still my child and know.

That I am God, and will always be
The One you can turn to for your every need
I love and adore you; you’re precious to me
Be still my child and know.

Through the Ashes

I used to think that hope and love were crutches for the weak
That victory was for the strong, surrender for the meek
I cried myself to sleep with bitter tears every night
Each day brought yet another trial; another war to fight

In my life’s story sinful anger won the leading role
Defiant unforgiveness had wreaked havoc on my soul
I locked myself behind the bars of envy, pride and hate
I threw away the key in spite; my heart sealed its own fate

I didn’t think that anyone could love someone like me
I buried all my pain alive so nobody would see
My bruised and battered heart was slowly breaking day by day
It seemed I’d lost the game before I even chose to play

But then you came along and proved me wrong
Your Truth became my Life, my Strength; my Song
Your Faithful Mercy gently took my hand
Your Grace sustained me when couldn’t stand

You proved to me the Victory was mine
You placed in me Your Love and made me shine
You healed my pain and You restored my sight
You brought me through the ashes into Light

Yes, You brought me through the ashes into Light.

Thank You, Jesus

Wonderfully Made

I am a perfect masterpiece created by Your Hand,
I’m wonderful and charming, exactly as You planned,

You love me unconditionally, every triumph, every flaw,
You sculpted every inch of me, then smiled at what You saw,

I know You’ll never leave me, of Your praises I will sing,
I know I am a princess, for I know You are my King.

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” – Psalm 139:14

Miracle for Me

You promised me that all I need
Is faith just like a mustard seed
And mountains would be moved in Your Name

You said if I choose to believe
And trust in You, I would receive
Abundant life and freedom from my shame

You parted the Red Sea and set the captives free
Please, Lord, provide a miracle for me
You spoke the earth to be and made the blind to see
Please, Lord, provide a miracle for me

You promised if I left my plans
And hopes and dreams all in Your Hands
You’d guide my path and you’d restore my soul

You said if I’d lay down my pride
And in Your Faithful Love abide
You’d heal my heart and you would make me whole

You parted the Red Sea and set the captives free
Please, Lord, provide a miracle for me
You spoke the earth to be and made the blind to see
Please, Lord, provide a miracle for me

A Beautiful Melody

May your life be a beautiful melody,
singing in the hearts of everyone you meet,

May the warmth of your smile brighten the darkest night,
may your chorus be lovely and sweet,

May the tune of your laughter bring joy and delight,
like sunshine on a summer day,

May the rhythm of your heart speak of love and of light,
reflected in all that you say,

When God wrote your song, He was very pleased,
and the angels rejoiced over you,

May you dance with the Lord all of your life,
and know His Love in all that you do.
